Aim
The New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (see
overleaf), requires personnel carrying out public
utility work, involving excavation and
reinstatement of the Highway, to be trained and
qualified to specific standards. The Act became
effective on January 1, 1993 and all such work
since that date is subject to its very stringent
specification, inspections, tolerances and
guarantees.
The aim of this course is to ensure that
supervisors of such work are appropriately
qualified within the law.

SQA Certificates & SWQR Certification.
Course Content
These courses include training in the location of
underground services, signing, lighting and
guarding the works, materials recognition/section
for reinstatement, acceptable working practices
and tolerances, all to the latest codes of practice.

- 1 Location and avoidance of underground
apparatus
- 10 Monitor signing, lighting and guarding
- 11 Monitor excavation in the road
- 12 Monitor reinstatement and compaction of
backfill materials
- 13 Monitor reinstatement of sub-base and
roadbase in non-bituminous materials
- 14 Monitor reinstatement in bituminous materials
- 16 Monitor reinstatement of modular surfaces
and concrete footways
